Essendon could drop bombshell with Stephen Milne eyed

STEPHEN Milne spent a season with Essendon reserves in 2000 before becoming a St Kilda champion.

Though he retired from the AFL at the end of 2013 after 275 games and 574 goals with the Saints, the 34-year-old (pictured) could be back in the big league in 2015 ... with the Bombers.

After a 100-goal season in the Bendigo league, Milne could be one of the players Essendon uses to top up its list if current members are suspended throughout the early part of the season following the club's anti-doping tribunal hearing.

The AFL Commission has agreed that if playing bans impact on the season proper Essendon "may sign temporary playing contracts with any player not currently on an AFL list but who have been on an AFL list in the last two seasons".

The Bombers have already invited Milne's ex-Saints teammate Clint Jones, as well as James Magner, Jared Petrenko and Mitch Brown to play in the NAB Challenge.
