End of era for DOL in Australia as Channel 9 cancels soapie

THE future of daytime soaps is looking dire after Channel 9 decided to call it a day on Days of Our Lives.

The American soapie, which has been airing on Nine for a staggering 45 years, will not be renewed despite US network NBC sticking by the show at least through the end of the year.

"For commercial reasons Nine have not renewed the contract with Sony for Days of Our Lives," a Nine spokesperson said in a statement.

"Sony have advised they are working to find a new partner for the show but are not making any announcements right now.  Contact Sony directly for any more details."

The show will air for the last time on Nine on Friday, April 26.

Fans keen to show their support for the show can contact Sony on (02) 9272 2900 or via email at DOOL_AU@spe.sony.com.
