Forensic Crash Unit investigate fatal crash at Riverview

UPDATE 10AM: One person has died in a fiery crash at Riverview this morning.

A Toyata Prado was headed Brisbane-bound along Brisbane Rd when it hit a power pole near the intersection of Webb St, about 5.25am.

The impact snapped the power pole off at the base and resulted in the four-wheel-drive bursting into flames, with the driver still inside the cabin.

Nearby residents saw the fireball but were unable to render assistance, with live power lines brought down by the impact.

Power has now been restored to Riverview residents.

Police are trying to ascertain who was driving the vehicle at the time.

The forensic crash unit is heading the investigation.

UPDATE, 9AM: Police remain at the scene of a single-vehicle traffic crash which occurred in Riverview this morning and are following up inquiries to ascertain who was driving the vehicle.

Police were called to the intersection of Brisbane Rd and Webb St at around 5.30am following reports a car had collided with a power pole before igniting.

Officers attended the scene and closed Brisbane Rd which is expected to remain closed until further notice.

Diversions are currently in place.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

6AM: Emergency crews are at the scene of a single-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of Webb St and Brisbane Rd at Riverview.

Motorists are advised that diversions are in place and to expect some delays.

Initial reports claim that the vehicle hit a power pole which has disrupted the power supply to some homes in the area.
