Elderly man arrested over kidnapping and bashing

AN ELDERLY man is the first of a group of accused violent robbers to be arrested over a kidnapping at a Newcastle jewellery store.

The 73-year-old is expected to be charged on  tonight over the part he allegedly played in the kidnapping and assault of a 55-year-old man at Hamilton last year.

Police will allege the victim was locked him inside a room and assaulted before being forced into a Jeep and driven to a storage shed where he was robbed of his belongings and assaulted again.

The injured man was then dropped off at property where he later reported the attack to police.

Police have released CCTV images of another four men wanted for questioning.
