Egg and lettuce trucks roll on the same day!

LETTUCES and rotten eggs blocked two major roads in the area yesterday.

Separate truck rollovers on the Cunningham Hwy and on Swanbank Rd spilled their loads and brought traffic to a halt. The Cunningham Hwy at Mutdapilly was blocked for seven hours after a semi-trailer hauling lettuce overturned about 11.30pm on Monday, covering the road with the leafy vegetables.

Police closed the highway late on Monday night, and it was not reopened until about 7am on Tuesday.

Police, firefighters and ambulance paramedics were called, but the driver had no injuries.

Police said the driver was found standing up inside the cab of the overturned prime mover.

Police said the road was covered with refrigerant, after the fluid had leaked from the trailer's refrigeration equipment.

It was understood the driver was from the Stanthorpe area.

The cause of the roll over was not known yesterday.

A truck carrying a load of waste - including rotten eggs - overturned on Swanbank Rd, Swanbank.

The load was on its way to be dumped in the area.

The truck ran off the road heading into Swanbank and rolled onto its side after the driver lost control. Police said the driver was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries.

The eggs spilled onto the ground and could be smelled from some distance away.

The truck remained partly on the road and blocked traffic. Trucks were backed up on both sides while more were being stopped by police at the intersection of Swanbank Rd and Sussex St.

Police were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, including possible mechanical fault.
