Family mourns: Eeva’s father called a gentle, loving soul

THE Pottsville mother of a man found dead alongside his young daughter this week has spoken of her heartbreak.

"Our two beautiful people are gone and whichever scenario it is, it's just gut-wrenchingly tragic," Diana Hutchings told the Daily News yesterday.

Ms Hutchings is trying to come to terms with the death of her son Greg, 35, and granddaughter Eeva Dorendahl-Hutchings, 4.

They are believed to be the bodies found on sand dunes 3km from Ms Hutchings' home on Tuesday after an 18-day police search. Police have confirmed they are investigating a murder, but have stopped short of calling it a murder-suicide.

An autopsy was carried out on the badly decomposed bodies on Thursday, but a cause of death has yet to be determined.

Police are reportedly investigating whether drowning or poisoning could have killed Eeva as no weapons were found at the crime scene.

"We all need to find out what happened here," Ms Hutchings said.

"Greg was a loving, thoughtful, gentle soul.

"We've been contacted by dozens of old and new friends of Greg who all express what a beautiful man he was.

"Even his closest friends who've seen him in his darkest hour can't see him hurting anyone.

"Eeva just had the biggest, most incredible smile you've ever seen. Just so much life in her - so fun-loving."

The discovery of the pair in thick bushland was made by a local SES volunteer following a tip-off.

"It's not the first time we have searched that area and it's a significantly dense area and the bodies were located secreted under a tree," Superintendent Detective Stuart Wilkins told the media.

An account has been set up for Michelle Dorendahl, Eeva's mum. Friend Michelle Kelly said the money would help pay for a memorial for Eeva or Michelle's expenses "at this terrible time".
