Easter armed robbery at West Ballina bottle shop

A WEST Ballina BWS bottle shop attendant was held up with a knife during an robbery that took place at about 10.45am this morning.

Richmond LAC Acting Inspector Wayne Crotty said the man, who is believed to be between 25 and 35 years old, demanded money before fleeing the scene with a small amount of cash taken from the register.

"The alleged offender has then taken a small amount of money and left the store and was last seen running across Ballina rugby union grounds," he said.

Acting Inspector Crotty said police coordinated a search of the area with the use of a general purpose police dog.

Witnesses, who were being served at the time of the robbery, have also been questioned and crime scene examiners are currently at the site.

Acting Inspector Crotty asked anyone with information to please contact Ballina police on 6681 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

"We're looking for a male between 25 and 35 years of age," he said.

"He is described as of dark appearance and he was wearing a black jumper with a light hoodie and also a cap and sunglasses and he was wearing black shorts with a thick white stripe down the side and black shoes."

The West Tower Tavern next to the BWS has remained open.
