Jackway denies describing Daniel as ‘Christmas cake’
DOUGLAS Jackway has denied referring to Daniel Morcombe as "Christmas cake" while talking to a fellow prison inmate.
Under cross-examination from defence barrister Angus Edwards, Jackway said he never had a conversation with the inmate.
Rather, he said, he had bashed the inmate who had made the claims and that he had been transferred.
Mr Edwards: "I suggest to you at Christmas, 2006, you referred to Daniel Morcombe … as Christmas cake? Remember that?"
Jackway: "No I don't. I've never spoken to him."
Mr Edwards: "I suggest you were laughing about the Morcombe family starting something up to help people with their grief?"
Jackway: "I've never spoken to him."
Mr Edwards: "You said 'they should just get over it'; do you agree with that?"
Mr Edwards: "I suggest you said …you had a male friend that could provide you with an alibi."
Jackway: "I just told you I've never spoken to the person."
