WHILE breastfeeding in public should be the norm, there are still some people who express opposition to it.
If you are one those people who would rather not have a breastfeeding mother in your line of site, here is a list of strategies you can employ to both keep you happy and preserve the mother's privacy.
1) The seat shift:
Most tables have four sides. Just get another seat.
2) Breast feed blocking shawl:
Some mothers have a shawl they use to cover their baby when breastfeeding, but some do not.
Why not get your own to cover your head and block out what you don't want to see.
It's a bit like Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, only in reverse.
3) Hide in your head:
Try remembering your 13-times table, or all the states in America starting with "A".
4) Go to a different cafe/restaurant:
There are many cafes and restaurants around town where you can go.
5) Look at your phone:
You're probably staring at your phone much of the time anyway, so just try to find the latest cat video online.
6) Think of the consequences:
The alternative is a screaming, hungry child who will interrupt you from your smart phone rather than a child silently feeding in the corner.
7) Look outside the window:
There must be something out there you'll enjoy seeing.
8) Get over it:
Just accept babies need to eat and it's not always possible for mums to do it out of sight.
