Dinner will honour Lance Ferris
It’s been two years since the Pelican Man, Lance Ferris, passed away.
Now the members of the organisation he founded – Australian Seabird Rescue – will be celebrating his life with the inaugural Lance Ferris Memorial Dinner to be held at the Ballina RSL Club, overlooking the river and the sandbar where Mr Ferris’ ashes were scattered.
The date for the dinner is Mr Ferris’ birthday, and the dinner aims to celebrate his life, his work and his inspirational legacy – ASR volunteers have rescued a total of 1000 pelicans.
At the dinner, ASR will launch the Lance Ferris Memorial Fund, which will be Australian Seabird Rescue’s tax-deductible fund.
ASR acting general manager, Keith Williams, said having a tax-deductible fund for ASR will mean the organisation will be able to apply for more grants programs, and maybe attract more donations from local residents.
He said ASR hopes the fund will be able to provide small scholarships for students undertaking research into marine wildlife and its conservation.
The dinner will be the major fundraiser for the memorial fund, with all money to be used to feed and house seabirds and turtles.
Tickets for the dinner cost $75, with a table of 10 costing $700, and include a three-course meal and entertainment.
Tickets are available through Ballina RSL Club.
