DELTA Goodrem will play Olivia Newton-John in an upcoming biopic for Channel 7 according to industry insiders.

TV Tonight is reporting that Goodrem is confirmed in the role. Rumours have been circulating about the singer's involvement ever since Seven announced the project.

The biopic, supported by Film Victoria, will begin shooting on December 12 and TV Tonight's David Knox is also reporting Newton-John herself is now on board with the project.

Next year will be a busy one for Goodrem, who is a coach on Nine's singing competition The Voice. She will also guest star in the upcoming fifth season of Nine's family drama House Husbands.

The Olivia Newton-John project is one of three biopics slated to air on Seven next year. The other two focus on Paul Hogan, with Josh Lawson in the lead role, and former cricketer Shane Warne.

Channel 7 has been approached for comment.

Newton-John was portrayed by Christie Whelan in a supporting role in another Seven biopic, Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door, last year.
