THE dancer's physique has long been a dream for the everyday woman.

The latest fitness craze, Xtend Barre, could be the answer to results worthy of centrestage.

Former Sunshine Coast dancer Rockell Williamson-Rudder said the Xtend Barre workout was taking the world by storm.

"It's a fusion of dance and Pilates. We take the best of both worlds and combine them in a 55-minute total body workout," she said.

"All the strength and safety from Pilates with the cardio and flow of dance."

Rockell said Xtend Barre was popular with women for the "streamlining effect it has on the body".

"Arms become long and lean, thighs are toned and the butt is lifted," she said.

"It's like getting a dancer's body without having to be one."

Xtend Barre classes begin with a warm-up before focusing on the upper body with light weights.

Then the barre is used to work the thighs and "seat", before moving on to the abdominals and a final stretch.

Rockell will be teaching Xtend Barre classes at Oxygen Pilates in Nambour on Thursday, March 21, at 6.30pm and Saturday, March 23, at 9am.

Xtend Barre will be held at three studios on the Coast, Oxygen Pilates in Nambour, Bern Pilates in Noosa and Dance Form Professional Studio in Cooroy.
