Crush continues despite dry

CRUSHING operations have continued without any interruption from the weather, and CCS has continued to rise despite the impact that the very dry conditions are having on the standing crop.

The weekly CCS figure was recorded as 15.67 units and the year to date CCS figure is now 14.16 units.

The variety Q208 made up slightly more than 25% of the total weekly supply with 15,794 tonnes supplied at 16.12 units of CCS.

The highest individual CCS for the week was 17.86 units.

This came from an Elliott River grower who supplied the variety Q232 4R.

The Isis Mill has now processed 1,121,190 tonnes of cane with 62,466 tonnes processed for Week 18.

The estimate has risen slightly to around 1,280,000 tonnes and if achieved this would leave around 159,000 tonnes to process from Friday, October 16.

Under normal circumstances, this will take around 16 days, which will have the 2015 crushing season at Isis Mill completed by very early November.

While many local growers are focused on the harvesting of the last of the 2015 season cane it is also important to be prepared for growing the 2016 season crop.

Ratoons will now be requiring irrigation and when making decisions about your irrigation plan, it is also important to consider electricity tariffs that will suit your irrigation requirements.

Growers should check their current tariff and discuss options with their electricity provider.

The Isis Sugar Partnership has commenced collecting data for the irrigation audits.

Growers with irrigation efficiencies concerns should register their interest in having an audit conducted on their irrigation systems.

Often very small changes can deliver real saving in energy costs.

Registrations can be made by contacting the staff at Isis Productivity Limited.

There is normally increased activity across the harvesting and hauling operations as the season draws to a close and all stakeholders are reminded to stay focused on safety.

Field staff will keep stakeholders informed about the timing of the 2015 Crushing Season completion and anyone with concerns should make contact with their respective field officer.
