NSW cricket stars to work with Northern Rivers kids today
NEW South Wales and Sydney Sixers all-rounder Stephen O'Keefe will visit the Far North Coast today as part of the Cricket NSW Toyota Country Blitz.
O'Keefe will be joined by NSW women's Breakers player Lauren Smith as part of sign-on days at Casino and Lismore.
The annual program sees players from both NSW teams travel throughout the state, visiting schools and community groups.
O'Keefe made his Test match debut against Pakistan in 2014 and finished the Sheffield Shield season as the leading wicket-taker last year.
There is also a Cricket Australia Gala Day at Kingsford Smith Park in Ballina today.
Primary school kids from all over the Northern Rivers will take part in games from 9.30am.
In a busy week of cricket there will be T20 Blast School Cup competition next week.
Games will be played at Lismore over two days on Wednesday and Thursday before another day at Casino on Friday.
"Milo T20 Blast is a game-changer for clubs to attract new players," development leader Dave Szumowski said.
"Cricket is a sport for all and last season's record-breaking results of achieving more than one million participants is proof that Australian cricket is heading in the right direction.
"We're trying to change community perception that our game is long, boring and only played on hot weekends."
O'Keefe and Smith are scheduled to be at Mortimer Oval in Lismore at 3.30pm and at the Casino RSM Club at 5.30pm.
