Council gets tough on alcohol at public reserves

COUNCIL has approved an alcohol ban at Lower Coffs Creek Reserve.

Unanimous approval was by given by councillors at Wednesday night's meeting to a nightly ban from 9pm to 9am.

Both local police and Dolphin Marine Magic had made complaints to the council regarding anti-social bahaviour late at night in the creekside park on the western side of Orlando St.

Alcohol related broken glass has been a concern for regular users, particularly parents who take their children to the playground.

This is not the first time Council has applied a booze ban on public spaces.

Alcohol and glass containers have been prohibited at skate parks in Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Corindi and Toormina for three years while many parks and reserves have been gazetted as alcohol prohibited areas between 9pm and 9am.
