Cops hunt for killer who took the lives of mum and daughter

THE bloody crime scene where a mother and her daughter were found dead on Wednesday night has been cordoned off as police continue to search for their killer.

The mother's husband told police he arrived home to find the pair dead on the floor.

His son-in-law, who also lived at the home, has not been seen since neighbours saw him drive away on Wednesday morning.

Detective Inspector Angelo Memmolo said police were keeping an open mind and a number of people were being interviewed.

He described the scene as "confronting" and said emergency workers had been offered counselling.

It's the third grisly case Sydney homicide detectives have been handed in the past week.

Investigations into the death of a young woman known as Nadine in the western suburbs are continuing while the tragic details of Mosman woman Kate Malonyay's murder continue to make headlines.

Hours after the popular finance employee was found dead in her apartment, police closed in on her ex-boyfriend Elliot Coulson, a navy officer who she parted ways with her late last year.

When police found their suspect at a resort on the Gold Coast, he fell from the 26th floor of his apartment.

Police have confirmed there are no other suspects in Ms Malonyay's death.
