Cooper admits you can't fully lock down Israel Folau

QUEENSLAND playmaker Quade Cooper says whatever tactics the Reds devise they won't completely shut down damaging Waratah's fullback Israel Folau in Saturday night's Super Rugby showdown in Sydney.

"You're never going to stop a guy like him (Folau). The best you can hope for is to limit in input and impact on the game," said Cooper, who's closed to within 10 points of former Queensland flyhalf Elton Flatley's record of 629 points.

"Any time you come up against a class player like him, you're never going to stop them completely."

Cooper warned if Queensland overloaded their tactics on Folau - who opened his 2014 Super Rugby campaign with a rare hat-trick last weekend - they could be punished in other areas.

"We'll have to go back to the drawing board and look at the best ways of slowing him down a bit," he said.

The Reds and Waratahs won their opening games last weekend and Saturday night's victory will move to the top of the table in their conference.
