Community gets behind PCYC event

MACKAY residents have generously donated to get their local celebrities, councillors and politicians out of jail at the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) Time 4 Kids event.

Event organiser Sergeant Kelsie Henderson said the community had really gotten behind the charity fundraiser, held today at Caneland Central.

Sgt Henderson said each participant who volunteered to be "locked up" in a makeshift jail had to raise $500 in bail money to get out.

"All the money raised goes to our youth programs at the Mackay PCYC," she said.

She said the PCYC hoped to raise up to $10,000.
