Coalition offers to spend up on health services

LISMORE MP Thomas George has announced the Coalition will increase frontline health staff by 3500 full-time positions statewide over four years if re-elected.

Describing it as a "huge boost" to hospital activity, Mr George promised to meet anticipated future demand in emergency departments and for elective surgery.

At Lismore Hospital, the new staff would fill out the larger emergency unit being built as part of the Stage 3A redevelopment.

"This quite clearly reinforces that not only we will have the new building but we will have the appropriate new staff to run the brand new emergency department," Mr George said.

Alongside 2100 nurses and 700 doctors across the state, the package also includes 96 Aboriginal dental and medical traineeships, 53 paramedics for the Helicopter Retrieval Service, and 360 nursing and midwife support staff.
