Cattle truck rolls west of Emerald

A TRUCK carrying 66 head of cattle rolled on the Capricorn Highway just west of Emerald this morning.

The east-bound truck appears to have veered off the road 10km west of Emerald at about 10am.

Senior Constable Isaac Galea said the male driver was taken to the Emerald hospital for observation with a few "cuts and grazes".

Some cattle had escaped onto a neighbouring property, while others were deceased upon arrival.

Others have been put down due to injuries.

Council staff worked for a number of hours to free cattle trapped on the truck.

The number of cattle that have died in the accident or as a result of injuries sustained during the accident is not yet known.
