Cattle report: Lismore sales off the rails

A TOTAL of 410 cattle were sold at Lismore Saleyards on Tuesday.

The yarding consisted of some very good lines of prime vealers, weaners suitable for restockers and the usual mixture of cows.

Prices were generally 5c/kg above last week's strong sale.

Prime milk or grain-assisted medium-weight vealers sold from $2.85-3.02/kg, returning $670-840.

Heavy vealers/weaner steers sold from $2.85-3.20/kg for good returns of $750-1061.

Good quality angus steers are popular with the western and southern restockers, selling for $3.30-3.68/kg.

Heavy steers suitable for feedlots topped at $3.04 ($1328).

Meatworks cows sold very well. Robert Black's romagnola sold for $2.64/kg ($1439).

The best of the dairy cows, a friesian, sold for $2.54/kg ($1830).

This was the final sale of the financial year.
