A JOB for a casual receptionist at a Mackay business garnered more interest than it would have five years ago.

A total 140 people applied for the position at Harrup Park.

General manager Michael Jones said applications had now closed and interviews were being conducted.

"We were blown away," he said.

"We get a lot more (applications) now than we used to to.

"But that (number) isn't normal."

He said five years ago they may have had only about three applications for that position.

Meanwhile, 77 people have already applied for four meter reader positions in Mackay and Rockhampton.

The job advertisement was uploaded five days ago on the website.

About 23 people have also applied for one service consultant position at Mackay City Auto Group.
