A BUNDABERG university professor has helped co-produce songs for the soundtrack of the new ABC drama series, The Straits.

CQUniversity's Karl Neuenfeldt has worked alongside two others to produce eight songs and some of the incidental music used in the series.

Associate Professor Neuenfeldt is well known for his work in collecting, preserving and disseminating the musical culture of the Torres Strait as a sound engineer, field recordist, oral historian, author and musicologist.

He has collaborated extensively with indigenous communities in Queensland on CD and DVD projects and archival research, and has also co-produced several albums including two ARIA Award-winning CDs by Torres Strait identity, Henry "Seaman" Dan.

He said the soundtrack featured songs he had produced with Seaman Dan, as well as collaborations with community musicians.
