Ballina council to consider more car parking at Newrybar

NEWRYBAR will receive more car parks if a motion in this week's Ballina Shire Council agenda is passed at today's meeting.

A report attached to the recommendation says an increase in commercial activity has led to ongoing requests from residents to increase parking in the village.

In response, the report says Ballina Shire Council agreed to allocate $30,000 in the 2014/15 budget to assist the community to build a car park in one of two locations identified.

The first proposed location is the road reserve on the northern side of the village between the Old Pacific Highway and the current Pacific Highway which would provide 18 parking spaces at an estimated cost of $90,000.

The second option is the southern shoulder of Brooklet Road from the Old Pacific Highway which would contain 17 car parks at an estimated cost of $65,000.

The report attached to the motion recommends the Brookley Road option because it is less expensive and provides an opportunity to improve the drainage.
