Bum deal as police find large cash stash in driver

ROMA police were shocked when a search located a large sum of money in a man's anal cavity.

The unsavoury discovery came as police conducting patrols in Roma intercepted a sedan on Gregory St about 4.40pm on Saturday.

A 30-year-old passenger and 22-year-old driver were arrested when police found drugs, suspected to be amphetamines, as well as a glass pipe, in the vehicle.

Sergeant Troy Newman said the men were searched at Roma police station by Criminal Investigation Branch officers.

A roll of bank notes totalling about $1000 was found in the driver's rectum.

Sgt Newman said the cash was encased in gaffer tape, but not very securely.

The man told police he planned to use the cash to buy a motorbike.

The two men will face Roma Magistrates Court next month.
