X Factor contestants Brothers 3 to play Ballina music fest

IN A big coup for the Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival, current X Factor contestants, Brothers 3, will be performing a one-off free gig in Ballina.

The boys will play at the Cherry Street Sports Club in Ballina on Thursday, October 2, as an added bonus in the lead-up to this year's festival.

Organiser, Carol Stacey, said the boys have performed at the festival 'from day one' when the festival began in 2011.

Brothers 3 - Tayzin, Shardyn and Makirum Fahey-Leigh - had lined up to return to this year's festival when they thought they would give X Factor a go. They were ambassadors for the festival last year, and were going to be ambassadors again this year when they found success on the television show.

Through contractual arrangements with X Factor, it became uncertain whether the boys could play in Ballina - they won the wild card on the show and are currently still in the running to win the major prize.

Mrs Stacey said she had a personal friendship with the mother of Brothers 3, Alita Fahey, and the boys themselves, and that led to Alita pushing for X Factor to release the boys for a show at the Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival.

Mrs Stacey said it was a real coup to have current X Factor contestants able to perform in the lead-up to the festival.

"I was very excited when I found out the boys were able to come to Ballina," she said.

"The boys have been great supporters of the festival and have promoted the Ballina festival at the other festivals they have performed at throughout the year.

"The way they have promoted the Ballina festival has helped us get our name out there."

They may still be contestants on the X Factor when the festival is held from October 3-5. Brothers 3 this year won the People's Choice Best Band and Best Album at this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival, and also won the best comedy/novelty song with their piece Hunstman in the Harmonica.
