Breakers outlast Crocs

THE New Zealand Breakers almost let victory slip before out-lasting the Townsville Crocodiles 81-70 in front of a packed North Shore Events Centre.

With the Crocs charging to within two points late in the game, superstar-in-the-making Tom Abercrombie spectacularly blocked point guard Eddie Gill at the rim, then coolly slotted a triple at the other end to put the Breakers clear.

American Gary Wilkinson led all scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds for New Zealand, while compatriot Gill paced the Crocs with 17 points.

Cedric Jackson (15 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) won the point guard battle though, while Abercrombie was everywhere with 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Not coincidentally, the Breakers have now sold out six of their past seven home games.
