Bravo out of Big Bash with hurt hamstring

CRICKET: The Melbourne Renegades have been dealt a blow with news all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will miss the rest of the Big Bash League season due to a hamstring injury.

Bravo suffered the injury during the Renegades' narrow loss to the Perth Scorchers on Thursday night and will require surgery.

"Unfortunately my Big Bash season is over, which is very disappointing,” Bravo said.

"I'll now have surgery and the rehabilitation to get me fit and playing at my best again. I want to thank all the Renegades fans for their support for me and I hope to see them again next season.”

The Renegades are considering their replacement player options but a decision is yet to be made on a substitute for the West Indies international.

"It's a huge blow. He's one of the best all-rounders in the world,” Renegades captain Aaron Finch said.

"It's an unbelievably damaging blow for us, but also for him because we know how much he loves coming out here.”

Renegades spinner Brad Hogg said it was now up to the rest of the squad to cover the all-rounder's loss.

"At the end of the day, you do lose players throughout the tournament. We've lost James Pattinson for the first couple of games and that's a big loss,” Hogg said.

"And that's where the other guys have got to step up and play their roles. If you're going to win the Big Bash, you're going to require all 18 of the squad.”

The injury blow comes as the Renegades prepare to take on the Stars in tomorrow night's Melbourne derby.

Organisers are expecting a similar crowd to last year's derby at the MCG, when 80,883 fans watched the Stars record a seven-wicket win.

The Stars should be boosted by the return of Kevin Pietersen, who missed his side's first-up win over the Hobart Hurricanes to spend Christmas with his family in England.
