Boomers to clash with Iran in Asia Cup final

THE Australian Boomers have shot out of the blocks early to trounce fierce rivals New Zealand and advance to the final of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon.

The Boomers opened the game with a devastating 22-2 run in the early hours of Sunday morning (AEST), and they didn't let up, winning 106-79.

The Boomers' big men led the way, with Matt Hodgson posting an equal game-high 15 points to go with his six rebounds and two assists, while Nick Kay chipped in with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

The game was essentially a battle between some of the NBL's most seasoned players - representing Australia - and a group of New Zealand's best up-and-coming NBL athletes.

For New Zealand, Reuben TeRangi finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Shea Ili had 14 points and four assists.

Australia will face Iran, after it downed Korea in the other semi-final. That game tips off on Monday at 3.50am (AEST) on Fox Sports 506.

The Tall Blacks will play Korea in the bronze medal game from 1.20am.
