EIGHT years ago, a man walked five-year-old Hannah out the front doors of her school and spirited her over the Mexican border, taking her into the world of a cult known as The Chosen.

Now, after years of searching, childhood survivors of the group have found the girl in Argentina.

But getting her out is a whole new challenge.

For the rescue they need someone who is brilliant, fearless and utterly ruthless. Vanessa Michael Munroe.

Because the only way to get Hannah out is for Munroe to go in.

A heroine in the same vein as Lisbeth Salander, Munroe is a chameleon and she uses this skill with deadly accuracy.

The Innocent is a well-written novel, full of suspense, plot twists and believable characters.

Munroe is strong, she is smart and she isn't about to let Hannah slip through her fingers.

Although The Innocent is a sequel, it doesn't presume too much prior knowledge.

It explores the characters and gives you plenty of insight into their psyches without losing sight of the plot.

This is one that will become part of my regular favourites' rotation.
