Divers find body of missing teen

THE body of a teenager who went missing from a waterhole near Tenterfield on Monday has been recovered by police divers.

The teenager has been identified as 17-year-old Brendan Sweetman from the southern-Queensland town of Stanthorpe.

Shortly after 1pm on Monday, he was with friends at Boonoo Boonoo Falls, within the Boonoo Boonoo National Park, when he jumped from a ledge into a fast flowing waterfall.

He failed to resurface and despite a frantic search on Monday night he was unable to be located.

At the time of the incident, the water current was strong and there was low visibility in the water due to heavy run-off from rain that had caused floods in the area.

Yesterday the search resumed and involved police divers from Sydney and they located the body shortly after 5pm.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
