Body of woman, 68, found in Sunshine Coast hinterland

POLICE have confirmed the body of a 68-year-old woman was found in Mapleton bushland over the weekend.

Acting Inspector Troy Pukallus of Sunshine Coast police told the Daily yesterday there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

Insp Pukallus said the woman's abandoned vehicle in the Mapleton Falls National Park car park was reported to police on Sunday.

He said the investigations indicated it could have been there for up to a week.

The woman's body had to be picked up by rescue helicopter crews.

Insp Pukallus said the site could be reached on foot, although the country was "treacherous".

"You'd be looking at a six-hour recovery by foot, so they're going to do it by helicopter," he said.

The abandoned vehicle had earlier promoted fears for a person missing.
