Body of missing Goulburn canoeist found during search

POLICE have found the body of a man who went missing after his canoe capsized during a Boxing Day fishing trip with mates.

The search for the missing canoeist resumed early on Friday with authorities locating the man's submerged body shortly before 10am.

Police said the Goulburn man, 21, was fishing on Pejar Dam near Crookwell in the NSW Southern Tablelands on Thursday.

The canoe carrying him and his friends overturned in choppy water about 7pm.

The late teen-aged friends managed to swim to shore and call for help, but the man did not surface.

Paramedics took them to Goulburn Hospital with suspected hypothermia.

The man's disappearance sparked a massive search of the dam and surrounding area by police, the SES and a rescue helicopter.

It is understood he was not wearing a lifejacket.
