Boardwalk set to open

THE Ballina RSL Club boardwalk will be officially opened to the public on Friday, December 18, at 5.30pm.

The club has funded the $660,000 to design and construct the wharf and will take full management for the first 12 months before handing it over to Ballina Shire Council.

Gary Hooley, who was recently re-elected as the chairman of the board of the club, said ‘the design and construction of the RSL boardwalk is a great achievement for the board’.

“Given the difficult financial times all organisations have been facing, it is a credit to the club that we could pull this off,” he said.

The new board was elected on November 8, with Norm Mulholland elected deputy chairman and Bill Moore as vice-chairman.

A new face to the board is Peter Dennis, who served in the Royal Australian Navy for six years.

Other members of the Board of Directors include Ron van Setten, Bev Young, Keith Spearing, Graham Brown, Kevin Hanns, Hans Willems and Graeme McNally.
