Blues turn pressure into points as Maroons struggle
AFTER an enterprising start by Queensland to lead 6-0 after 11 minutes, NSW turned on the pressure to score three tries in just 14 minutes to lead 16-6 at halftime.
Valentine Holmes opened the scoring for the Maroons after a slick backline ball movement.
Johnathan Thurston added the extras from the sideline.
The Blues responded within three minutes when Jarryd Hayne crashed over out wide after quick hands. James Maloney converted.
The try was Hayne's 11th in Origin, drawing him level with Michael O'Connor on the NSW tryscoring chart.
Brett Morris added another try for NSW 10 minutes later and on the 28th minute mark half Mitchell Pearce backed up a break initiated by Jake Trbojevic and involving fulback James Tedesco.
