A MACKAY food blogger has won the chance to learn some industry secrets from one of the best and most recognised chefs in the world.
On Saturday Lee Crump will share a kitchen with chef, author and restaurateur Jamie Oliver in Ipswich.
Mr Crump entered The Good Guys competition Search for a Home Blogger last month and earned himself a place among four finalists from around Australia.
The QR National employee said he was a fan of Jamie Oliver's cooking and his food philosophy to teach people how to eat healthily.
"I have an immense passion for food so it seemed to be a great fit (to enter the competition)," Mr Crump said.
"Jamie's Ministry of Food philosophy about healthy eating really strikes a chord with me."
Mr Crump said his food blog started as a travel diary.
"It came naturally. I'm a bit of creative writer," he said.
"I started writing a travel blog of what we'd (Mr Crump and his wife) done, then I moved on to restaurant reviews and then I started publishing recipes."
Mr Crump said it was important to know the science behind cooking.
"I like to study food and why things are done; like the biological process for cooking meat and vegetables and understanding how it works," he said.
"(I like to question) why add salt to food; it's not just a flavour.
"I also like to look at food chemistry and question why we add lemon juice, olive oil or vinegar."
He said there were a few secret ingredients he liked to add to his dishes while experimenting in the kitchen.
"I love to use anchovies," Mr Crump said.
"They make a wonderful seasoning and if you put them in the dish early on it gets rid of fishy flavour."
"I only have a few cookbooks and a few of Jamie's because they have great teaching techniques.
"But it's not just about the recipe it's about learning about food too."
Mr Crump still has a chance to win the overall prize of a trip to London.
