Wet weather can't stop Bindi Irwin putting on a show

THE rain came down in Beerwah but, like a true showman, Bindi Irwin just kept the show rolling.

The 16-year-old host continued to wow crowds at Australia Zoo's Zoom event yesterday afternoon, certainly not letting some wet weather scare the Father's Day crowds away.

"(Yesterday's downfall) happened in the middle of the show but people still stuck around, Bindi fed the crocs in the rain as she's very good at it," an Australia Zoo spokeswoman said.

"(The weekend) was an amazing success. There was plenty of great buzz and, based on the success, we hope to do it again next year."

While crowd numbers for the weekend were not available yesterday afternoon, the spokeswoman said Bindi had entertained a "very full" Crocoseum, just one of the draws to Zoom at the zoo.

The event, which came together through a five-year partnership with RACQ earlier this year, is designed to help fund Wildlife Warriors conservation projects, including the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.

Motorsport legend Dick Johnson was joined by many other motorsport enthusiasts and drivers, such as Fastway Racing driver Simon Ellingham.

While more than 30 cars were on display, the one touted to possess the speed of a cheetah, the roar of a lion and power of a crocodile - the Lexus IS-F racing car - was popular with the crowd.

During the weekend, Bindi even joked that Mr Johnson's car was an upgrade from her dad's beloved old Ute that she is currently learning to drive in.

"We're so excited to welcome all these fathers and

families to Australia Zoo on such a special day, Father's Day," Bindi said.

"There's something for everyone over the weekend with amazing cars and our awesome wildlife - it's a real family day out," she said.

A dedicated Kids Zone was set-up for the event, and included free face painting and amusement rides, as well as the opportunity to see and be educated about Australia's native wildlife up close.
