Biggest Loser winner Craig healthy and ready for love
THE BIGGEST Loser winner Craig Booby is happy, healthy and ready for love.
The 34-year-old sales manager won last night's grand final of the reality weight-loss show, taking home the $75,000 grand prize after shedding a massive 79.8kg.
"At the start (of the show) one of the producers asked how much I thought I could lose. I said 30kg would be good, 50kg would be amazing," he told APN.
"In the end, standing up on the scales and seeing 79.8kg was quite amazing."
Booby was one of 14 "town champions" selected to live and train at The Biggest Loser house in Sydney in the latest series, which saw the show's trainers help the overweight Victorian town of Ararat get into shape and below the national weight average.
But he faced strong opposition in the face of the "awesome foursome" alliance, three of the members of which also made it into the grand final.
"The last four weeks in the house were really tough," he said.
"I knew it was going to end me against the girls. Pretty much since the start of the competition I knew if I fell below the yellow line I'd be gone. I just did everything I could."
Booby had shed 50kg from his starting weight of 183.4kg by the time he went home to Ararat to continue training in the weeks leading up to the grand final weigh-in.
"Going home was really hard in a way because everyone thought you've done well and that's it, let's catch up and go to the pub and celebrate," he said.
"I was still focused. I wasn't going to turn my back on it all.
"Two of my best mates own the pub, so I go in there and have a glass of water. Everybody laughs at me but they have it (the water) ready for me when I walk in."
Booby's physical transformation shocked audience members tonight, with some people in his local community not recognizing the slimmed-down man.
His new healthy lifestyle, and more positive outlook on life, might even help him find love.
"I'm certainly a lot more confident that I used to be," he said.
"I've had a friend back in Ararat for some time and I've got a lot confidence talking to her now."
The town of Ararat also has a fresh spring in its step.
"There has been a massive change," Booby said.
"Before we went away (to the Biggest Loser house), everyone was really pumped and excited. To come home and see the people still out walking and out and about was really good. Everyone's still continuing it. You see walking groups and community activities."
Through their weight loss, the 14 town champions helped to raise $145,000 for the town's healthy living legacy.
