Big Prawn photos show region's quirky photographic genius
BALLINA'S Big Prawn has become a staging area where the slightly off-beat genius of Northern Rivers photographers can be displayed.
We have some hilarious snaps coming in. The question is: can you beat them?
The photos are being emailed in as part of a week-long photo competition being run by The Northern Star, the Ballina Shire Advocate, and Bunnings Ballina to celebrate the completion of the new-look prawn and the opening of Bunnings' giant new hardware store.
The rules of the competition are straightforward - take a picture of someone (or have someone take a picture of you) in front of the Big Prawn and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Beyond that, there's a world of interpretation to play with, from Bruce Munro's great prawn fry-up to Tom O'Dwyer's great prawn heist to Prawn Festival coordinator Nadia Eliott-Burgess's big prawn push.
Get your thinking cap on. The best prawn pic will win a Matador four-burner "Retro" hooded barbie, worth $699.
However, think fast, because you only have until 6pm, Sunday, August 4, to get your entry in and amaze us with your cleverness.
The winner of the competition will be decided on Monday, August 5 and notified by phone of email. They will also be announced at Bunnings the following weekend and in the Ballina Shire Advocate on August 14.
A selection of the best images will also be published in a photo spread within The Northern Star.
