LESS than a week after hosting an international tennis tournament, Toowoomba will welcome some of Australasia's leading golfers for the 2012 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship.
The championship hits off at City Golf Club on Thursday with the best-credentialed field in the tournament's history.
Former Australian Open champion Craig Parry headlines the event alongside last year's tournament victor Gareth Paddison who is fresh off a win at the Victorian PGA Championship at the weekend.
This year's field is restricted to 132 players and more than 60 hopefuls teed up at Toowoomba Golf Club yesterday looking to secure one of the last qualifying spots.
A total of 16 players made it through with Queenslander Tarquin MacManus leading the way with his seven-under-par 65.
Toowoomba's Johnathon Zirkler still remains a chance of a Queensland PGA appearance after snaring one of six alternate spots.
Zirkler missed out on a qualifying place by one shot after his par 72 and survived a playoff to be named the third alternate.
Zirkler needs three players to withdraw from the tournament to earn a call-up.
City Golf Club trainee Grant Harriman also shot a round of 72 to secure the fourth alternate position.
