Best friend’s death triggers 15,000km ride

A BEST friend's dream to ride 15,000km around Australia has become Kim Evans' most epic adventure.

'Devil 'n' Me Around Ozee - Ride for No MND' is the charity ride Mr Evans has embarked on in memory of his best friend and brother-in-law, who died from motor neurone disease.

He is attempting to raise awareness and $1 million for the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia (MNDRIA).

The 56-year-old and his dog, Devil, dropped into Mackay yesterday. Mayor Deirdre Comerford and other councillors greeted the high school teacher and presented him with a cheque for $200.

"It's been a really wonderful experience," said Mr Evans, who had hoped to complete the ride with his late friend.

"Raising the profile of such an illness is not an easy thing to do."

While riding he wears a cross around his neck that holds his friend's ashes.
