Berisha seeking revenge against Sydney FC

FOOTBALL: Besart Berisha says the A-League finals series will wipe the slate clean after three defeats against Premier's Plate winners Sydney FC in the regular season.

Melbourne Victory will play Berisha's old team Brisbane Roar next week in the major semi-final on Sunday at AAMI Park with the winner to play Sydney FC or the winner of last night's playoff clash between Melbourne City and Perth Glory.

If the Victory had won the three games against the Sky Blues then the A-League would have seen different minor premiers.

Melbourne led two of the three games before losing 2-1 but Berisha said the Victory now had a chance for revenge if both teams reached the grand final.

"Of course we lost three times. We know that. But finals are finals and this is where everything starts," he told Fox Sports.

"We didn't bring 100% against Sydney FC this year when we play them and if you want to win against them you have to be 100%.

"It's definitely always a special game against Sydney FC (and) we owe them."

Berisha scored 48 times in three seasons for the Roar before leaving for Melbourne.

He added another 52 for the Victory to become the first player to score 100 goals in the A-League.

After overtaking Archie Thompson to become the league's highest scorer earlier in the season, Berisha said he was delighted to score a second milestone on the eve of the finals.

"I'm relieved," he said.

"You want to score this goal and get away (from the milestone) leading towards the finals.

"It was really important to me. I want to be free. I want to think just about the finals and how to play and win."
