BESART Berisha has revealed a half-time tantrum helped him relax before scoring Saturday night's Melbourne derby winner.

The Melbourne Victory striker "smashed up everything” in the Victory change room at AAMI Park after missing two gilt-edged chances in the first half.

He composed himself to score the decisive goal 12 minutes from time, securing a crucial 2-1 win after two losses to Melbourne City in October.

"I was very angry, I went inside and smashed everything around,” Berisha said.

"Chairs, the bin, the dressers, maybe some doors - I really smashed everything to relax a bit because I was very emotional.

"Then I was fine, it was relieving. I was in trouble from the kit man because I broke things.

"We lost two (derbies) and it's not easy. I was very frustrated with myself. I wanted too much, I wanted to score too early, I calmed down a bit.

"I had a couple of chances in the beginning and I thought, 'Oh my god, I'm not going to score any more. What is going on?'

"I was very emotional coming into this game. We had lost the last two (derbies).

"I motivated myself. I tell myself 'keep going, one more chance you're going to get and you've gotta be there' and this is the way I am.

"I hope I keep this and I never give up and keep working hard. In the end I'm very happy I scored the winner.”

Berisha's goal meant he equalled former teammate Archie Thompson's A-League record of 90 goals.

His winner came after Marco Rojas cancelled out Tim Cahill's opener in front of almost 25,000 fans at the traditional pre-Christmas derby.
