Ben Barba is back from rehab
BEN Barba's mum Kim is flying this morning to see her son for the first time since news broke of his admission to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in suburban Sydney.
"I just want to hug him and tell him everything is ok,' said Kim
"I can't wait - I wish I was going this arvy."
Ben rang yesterday morning and told his mum, "I'm fine and I'm out."
It was a much welcomed call for Kim who said she just wanted to let Ben know everything would be okay and that there were so many people from up here behind him.
"He couldn't see all that so I can't wait to tell him," she said.
Kim was unaware of reports yesterday that Ben may be back training at Belmore this week and said he was there to see all the boys at the club.
"We just spoke about how he was feeling, I don't know nothing about that," she said.
Ben was at Belmore yesterday and spoke to his team-mates and staff but no-one was ruling out his return in a Round 3 blockbuster re-match of last year's grand final against the Melbourne Storm.
Coach of the Bulldogs Des Hasler said they would not be rushing him back for the sake of it and that the club would always continue to be guided by the medical experts and heed their advice.
Ben spoke to the media yesterday thanking the hard work of the many professionals who have helped him over the last few weeks and said he would be forever thankful for the care and compassion shown to him during a difficult time in his life.
"I've learned an enormous amount in the last few weeks and I know that I have lots of hard work and sacrifice in front of me over the next few years. I'd also like to thank everyone in the media, the NRL, my sponsors and the many rugby league supporters for their show of faith, support and for letting me recover from my personal matters in privacy and I hope you can continue to support me and allow me to work hard and get better in my own way."
Mum's hug will be good too.
