IF YOU are what you eat, then nowhere is this mantra more true than in your appearance and energy levels.
Are you a McDonald's burger on legs or a mixed salad? Does your skin say greasy fast food or loads of good-for-you greens?
The connection between food and beauty is incredibly powerful, says Kimberly Snyder, one of Hollywood's top celebrity nutritionists and author of The Beauty Detox Foods.
Just by changing the foods you eat, you can radically change the way you look - and feel, she says.
Here are some of her tips from her beauty book.
Eat more raw than cooked vegetables
Eating vegetables raw is the key to obtaining the most beautifying vitamins, enzymes and nutrition, so eat plenty of salads and raw vegies every day.
When cooking vegetables, steaming will retain some nutrients and ensure they are easily digested.
Drink water between meals not at meals
Too much liquid with meals dilutes your digestive juices and can slow digestion considerably.
Drink significant quantities of water at least half an hour before your meals or an hour following.
It's important to drink water when you wake up and throughout the morning so that you start your day hydrated.
Just ensuring you are hydrated will give you more energy.
Learn to love cider vinegar
Raw apple cider vinegar actually helps promote optimal digestion and encourages the growth of friendly bacteria in your body.
Simply use it in salad dressings instead of other vinegar.
Go alkaline not acid
The way to look and feel your best is to strive to eat 80% alkaline forming foods such as vegetables, ripe fruits and sprouts and 20% acid forming foods such as animal protein or processed foods.
Research shows the connection between increased animal protein intake and a loss of calcium in the bones.
Eat alternative grains
Rethink wheat and gluten foods. The best beauty detox grains are millet, quinoa, amaranth and buckwheat.
Sugar may make your body insensitive to the hormones insulin and leptin (which are key for helping to reduce hunger) and this insensitivity can lead to weight gain and diabetes.
Excess sugar may also disrupt the hormones signalling your body to build muscle.
Eat asparagus to reduce puffiness
Puffy circles in the thin, delicate under-eye area may often be the result of an overdose of sodium.
Per cup, asparagus has 288mg of potassium and is very low in sodium, which means that eating asparagus helps create the proper electrolyte balance in the body and reduces puffiness and bloating.
Beat cellulite with your diet
Good anti-cellulite foods include fresh coriander and parsley, buckwheat, oats, kale, hemp seeds and quinoa.
Make sure you drink plenty of pure water too and reduce processed foods, especially those high in sugar and salt.
