Dayne Beams home for sick father, and possibly a flag

DAYNE Beams had one word to say when asked if he thought Collingwood or his new team the Brisbane Lions were closer to winning a flag.

"Brisbane," he said.

Beams spoke yesterday in Melbourne for the first time since his trade to the Lions after spending time with close friend Heath Shaw and former Magpie teammates Clinton Young, Jarrod Witts, Paul Seedsman and Steele Sidebottom in New York.

The 24-year-old (pictured) revealed he would still be at Collingwood had it not been for his father Phillip's cancer diagnosis.

Beams Snr is now in remission but his son added: "It's been something I've been thinking about since receiving the phone call from my old man saying he was sick.

"It hasn't been a decision I've made in the space of two weeks, it's been something that I've thought about a lot through the year.

"To me my family's everything. My decision was based purely around that."
