Warburton adds an edge to Tintenbar-East Ballina's game

TINTENBAR-East Ballina batsman Mick Warburton continued his recent run of good form with a determined innings against Alstonville in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League action at the weekend.

The opener scored 49 runs, with only two other batsmen in his side reaching double figures at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.

The 'Bar could only manage 139 runs from 51 overs before being bowled out.

Middle-order batsman Nathan Hoey scored 44 while all-rounder Brett Crawford added 26.

Warburton has been one of the best for his side this season, scoring 392 runs.

He scored his first Hooker League century against Marist Brothers a fortnight ago.

It was just reward for the 37-year-old, who has been at the club for two decades.

He came close to a century when he was unbeaten on 98 but ran out of partners in a Coastal League game against Cudgen in December.

Warburton also scored a half century against Casino last month when he returned to the top grade.

The 'Bar are sixth on the ladder and will need to keep winning games to stay in touch with the top four.

Alstonville are already 3-70 in reply.
