Police have charged a man believed to be part of Rebel's Ballina chapter

Ballina Rebels member faces 23 charges for Toowoomba attack

A REBELS motorcycle gang member, 28, is facing 23 charges for allegedly "seriously and sexually" assaulting his former partner during a domestic violence incident in Toowoomba last month.

The man was picked up by New South Wales Police, working alongside Taskforce Maxima. He is to face Moree Local Court on Thursday, as police attempt to extradite him to Queensland.

Understood to be a member of the Ballina's Rebels chapter, the charges include five counts of assault, four counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault, two counts of attempted rape, another two of making threats and one charge each for deprivation of liberty, assault causing bodily harm and serious assault.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith of Taskforce Maxima, said the investigation revealed another example of the bullying behaviour used by Criminal Motorcycle Gang participants, who not only commit offences but also attempt to scare complainants from making complaints to authorities.

"The courage of the victim in this instance is indicative of the change in community attitude.

"Victims now come forward with confidence knowing they are supported and these offenders will face the consequences of their actions," Detective Inspector Smith said.
