Ballina discussing rates increase

RATES for the 2013/14 financial year will be one of the topics of discussion at Ballina Shire Council's finance committee meeting this afternoon.

The meeting starts at 4pm at the council chambers on the corner of Cherry and Tamar Sts, Ballina.

The Northern Star will be tweeting updates from the meeting.

Staff have recommended a 5.9% increase in rates for 2013/14, compared to the 6.1% increase which was adopted for the current financial year.

Councillors will also be talking about their priorities for community infrastructure, such as the sports and events centre, Marine Rescue tower, Lennox Head surf club and an indoor swimming pool for Ballina.
