Ballina Aboriginal family centre launches childcare service

THE Ballina Aboriginal Child and Family Centre at West Ballina started operating its childcare centre this week.

The $3 million centre is located in Hayman St, at Porter Park, and was funded by the Federal Government under the Closing the Gap initiative, while Ballina Shire Council provided the land.

The centre had a controversial start to life, with many lobbying for it to be built elsewhere. But it is now finished and operating.

The centre aims to "support our community to raise healthy and culturally strong children and is a place of belonging for all our Aboriginal children".
